Getting a break from caring

As a carer it is important you take some time out to look after your own health and wellbeing. Regular breaks from caring are important to help you look after yourself as well as the person you care for.

Many carers struggle to find time for themselves as well as looking after their loved one. Finding time to focus on yourself is one of the most important things you can do as a carer. A break from caring can mean anything from having 30 minutes peace and quiet to watch your favourite TV programme attending Sunderland Carers Group (opens new window) to accessing formal provision following a carers assessment and/ or an adult needs assessment for the person you look after.

Sunderland Carers' Centre (opens new window) can offer support and advice on ways to find time for yourself, and where appropriate, provide a Carers Assessment to look at your needs in more depth.
