Dust

Dust and grit can often be a source of irritation for residents when interfering with the use of individuals property.

Common complaints relate to dust and grit arising from; construction sites, where renovation work is taking place or occasionally from commercial or industrial locations.

Occasionally, some dust releases cannot be avoided.

We would advise that initially you contact the company causing the problem to see understand if it was a 'one off' or if a resolution can be found informally.

For ongoing activity we would advise that businesses or construction sites should have their own dust monitoring in place and have adequate control measures on site to prevent or reduce dust emissions. This can include water suppression, screening and cleansing of road surfaces.

If the dust release becomes an on ongoing problem and starts to impact on the use and enjoyment of your property or health , the council can investigate under statutory nuisance powers.
