Right to work

With the introduction of The Immigration Act 2016, the Council is now under a legal duty to ensure all applicants have the right to live and work in the UK. You will be required to prove that you have these rights before being licensed for either a first grant or renewal

Anyone applying for a licence, must prove that their immigration status does not stop them from holding a licence.

The Home Office, via the UK Border Agency, has compiled a   list of documents (PDF) [19KB] (opens new window)   which prove someone has the right to remain and work in the UK.

You will be asked to provide an original document, this will be verified by the Customer Service Centre at City Hall, a verified copy of your original document will be given to you as part of the right to work check for you to upload with your application.

All applicants must comply with the policy and provide the necessary documentation.

A licence will lapse when the holder no longer has permission to be in the UK.
