Leadership blog - 08.05.19
In this blog, the Leader talks about the local election results and this weekends half marathon, 10K and 5K events.
Continuing the theme of my last blog I wanted to thank everyone who took the time to vote in the local elections.
As I said previously, our right to vote has been hard won and is the result of great sacrifices by our ancestors, so it's important that we all make sure our voices are heard in elections and through other democratic processes.
The council is committed to listening to, and acting upon, what residents want and need across the city and as Leader, I understand what you have recently said at the ballot box. As a council we will continue to press ahead with ambitious plans for economic regeneration and the creation of a dynamic, healthy and vibrant city that provides opportunities for all.
This includes having a fantastic leisure offer and working to make sure there is something for everyone when it comes to enjoying time with family and friends and staying fit and healthy. I'm therefore really looking forward to seeing the Sunderland 10K and half marathon plus a new 5K event take place this weekend and residents and visitors alike reaping the rewards of all their training and preparations.
We also have the new Scrantastic Family Food Festival to look forward to next weekend in Rectory Park in Houghton which will be followed by the Sunderland Food and Drink Festival in the city centre in June, headlined by Michelin-starred chef Jean-Christophe Novelli.
More information can be found on these and all our other events on our See it Do it website - do get along if you can and have a really enjoyable time. And that goes for all the runners this weekend too - here's wishing you the very best of luck
