Help support food banks
Sunderland City Council in partnership with Sunderland Clinical Commissioning Group, has launched a new crowdfunding campaign to raise £30,000 for Sunderland food banks.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the food banks across Sunderland have provided an essential service to those most in need of support in our community. They are currently in very high demand with a reduction in supplies and are working tirelessly to help support our vulnerable residents not only in this crisis, but also in the longer term.
In 2019 the food banks were inundated with support when a total of 1316.64KG of food was donated by Sunderland City Council staff. That is the equivalent of 1582 meals to prevent people going hungry. 368.44KG alone was collected as part of our Christmas collection, alongside £1524.15 in donations.
Sunderland City Council are now asking our staff and Councillors to continue their support and lead a new campaign of pledges for these services.
In partnership with Sunderland Clinical Commissioning Group, Sunderland City Council have launched the new 'Creating Resilience within Sunderland Communities' appeal. This campaign aims to raise a total of £30,000, with half of this total provided through match-funding.
Not only will the money raised deliver food and supplies in the short term but will also help provide wrap around services to bring our most vulnerable residents out of crisis in the longer term. This will include essential welfare advice and one to one support.
Sunderland City Council are now asking everyone to pledge as little as £2 to help support this campaign, with every penny going directly to the food banks.
This campaign is being promoted via Crowdfund Sunderland, the council's crowdfunding platform. The platform brings together residents, communities and businesses, to collaboratively fund projects that communities want and need. There are already several campaigns being supported that were created by Sunderland residents, who have rallied support within their communities to raise funds.
The people of Sunderland need to see their council leading the way in this campaign. Please pledge generously and help support your local services.
You can also promote the campaign using #LetsPullTogether on all social media.
