Are you ready to isolate?

It's important to have a self-isolation plan ready for a 10-day period, so you can have everything in place to self isolate to stay safe at home, as you will not be able to leave your house for 10 days.

Think about what may make it difficult or what would help you - so that you can be ready for this in advance.

In your plan you could include:

  • Making sure you have essential items at home ready, should you need to isolate at any point
  • Keeping a contact list of who could help you get essentials such as food and medicine (friends, family, neighbours, colleagues at work or online services). You will need to make sure these are left outside for you to collect. If you are unable to access medication or essential supplies we can also help if you call us on 0800 234 6084
  • Keeping a checklist of trusted sources for the latest guidance to follow such as and and to make sure you are aware of local practical support (Need support or want to help?)
  • Accessing financial support; you may be eligible for the Test and Trace Support Payment scheme (£500)
  • Consider how you will look after your mental health and wellbeing, such as keeping in touch with friends and family on the phone or online, ideas for exercising at home or in the garden, and preparing hobbies or activities you could focus on indoors
  • Plan what you'll do should someone at home begin to feel much worse - Call 111. check symptoms with NHS Covid-19 symptom checker
  • Will you need help with utility bills e.g. topping up energy meters or with posting mail?
  • If your dog cannot be exercised at home, you should ask someone outside of your household or support bubble to walk your dog for you, or access walking services provided by a professional. Coronavirus (COVID-19): advice for people in England with animals - GOV.UK (
  • You should notify anyone walking your dog on your behalf in advance that you're self-isolating and arrange a no-contact service where possible
  • Make sure you know where to access support if you feel lonely, anxious or overwhelmed or need specific help: NHS every mind matters
