Your Council Tax Energy Rebate

Residents are beginning to receive their Council Tax Energy Rebate.

A street in Barnes

Payments into bank accounts started this week and the first block of payments is continuing up to the Easter weekend when more than 71,000 residents will have received the rebate.

The payments are to residents who currently pay their Council Tax by direct debit. Residents who have recently become direct debit payers will start to receive their payment from Monday 25 April providing their bank details have been validated .

Residents are encouraged to pay their Council Tax by direct debit for convenience and efficiency reasons. It is also helping the council to automatically pay the Council Tax Energy Rebate to residents.

Signing up is easy and can be done at direct debit or by calling 0191 520 5551.

For those residents who do not currently pay by direct debit an online application form (council-tax-energy-rebate-form) can be completed. In line with Government directions, applications are then verified and validated before payments can be made.

Households in receipt of Sunderland's own Council Tax Support scheme at the beginning of April are receiving a £20 top-up. This means that all households in receipt of Council Tax Support receive a total payment of £170.

Around 120,000 city households are eligible to receive the £150 Council Tax Energy Rebate and over 31,000 of these who receive Council Tax Support get the £20 top-up.
