Washington Old Hall
Dorothy our reporter dorothy shared her knowledge of history and her recent trip to Atlanta.
Here in the north east, we have many interesting historic buildings attracting visitors from near and far. Washington Old Hall, now owned by National Trust, is a particular favourite of mine.
The oldest parts of the building date back to the mid-13th century and it's seen many changes since that time. A visit is highly recommended. You'll be intrigued to read about the many people who lived in the hall as well as the changes of use over time. The hall is the ancestral home of the first president of the USA, George Washington.
So ... last time I was in Atlanta, I paid a visit to the President Carter Museum. I was introduced to the Curator and explained that I live close to Washington Old Hall. She was pleased to hear that President Carter's visit in 1977 had been so successful and that the people of the north east had taken him to their hearts. The original news footage is played on a loop in one of the rooms of the Old Hall which is a lovely feature.
We chatted for a while and the Curator insisted we had a photograph taken together. The booklet was produced by the Friends of Washington Old Hall, and I hope they were pleased that I was able to forge a link between them and the President Carter Museum.
