Due to social distancing restrictions certificates CANNOT be collected from the Register Office at this time.
All our certificates are posted first class, within 5 working days of your request, however we have been informed by Royal Mail that there are delays in the distribution of post, so a delivery date cannot be guaranteed.
For births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships that occurred in Sunderland you can buy copies of certificates online, using the link below. You'll need a debit or credit card to pay for your certificate.
Certificates purchased through our standard service are £11 each and are posted within 5 working days of payment being made. All certificates are posted 1st class via Royal Mail and we have no control over how long they take to arrive.
All copy certificates are 'certified copies'. They are the same as the certificate issued upon initial registration. If you have been asked for an original copy of a certificate, it is likely that a 'certified copy' will suffice. However, this should be confirmed with the organisation requesting sight of the certificate.

- Write to Sunderland Registration Service with as much detail as possible about the names and the event that will allow us to identify the register entry. Please enclose the appropriate fee (see below) and a stamped self-addressed envelope. Address your envelope to Sunderland Registration Service, Civic Centre, Burdon Road, Sunderland SR2 7DN. Cheque's or postal orders should be made payable to 'Superintendent Registrar'.
