Sensory support
Sunderland City Council commissions the Royal Society for the Blind to complete assessments and provide services on our behalf for people who are visually impaired.
The Service provides support to adults aged 18 years and over who have a visual impairment, who are deaf/blind, or who are blind and have a Certificate of Visual Impairment.
The service is available Monday to Friday between the hours of 9am-5pm.
Following an assessment of need, where it is identified that Individuals require an item of equipment from the list below to meet their needs, the service will provide this along with training in the proper and safe use.
Only the items from the list below will be made available to individuals:
- Talking clock
- Liquid level indicator
- Symbol cane
- Signature guide
- Adjustable white walking stick
- Reading guide
- Bumpons
The service also signposts people to services, including services provided by other agencies, that can offer help and support for people, such as information, advice and support.
