Supported living
Supported living is a combination of accommodation care and support. It is designed to help individuals to be independent, have choices and take control of their lives. Sunderland has a range of supported living options which include shared living adapted properties and sole tenancy properties.
Sunderland also offers a hub and satellite model of supported living which enables people to be supported to either live in accommodation where staff are available at all times, within the hub or to live on their own in satellite properties, where they can receive support from staff that are based at the hub. The hub can either be a staff base or a staff apartment.
An assessment of your accommodation care and support needs must be completed by adult social workers to see if you meet the eligible criteria for this support.

Supported living case study
"I have been in and out of hospital for years and in different homes. It has been a struggle but with the support of Sunderland Care and Support (SCAS) I have changed my life. They have made me feel welcome and given me the help I have needed. I am more mature, I can better manage my emotions and mental health. I have changed a lot and feel ready to move on.
The Hylton Road development is the next step and a chance for me to continue to grow, become more independent and achieve my goals in life.
I want to say thank you for the support of social work, SCAS, commissioning and everyone within Sunderland City Council who have helped make the dream of having my own front door come true!"
