Asbestos works in schools / academies

If you are having works carried out in the school during holidays you will need to arrange a refurbishment survey. Time can very limited for turnaround and in the event the works need to be notified to the HSE we ask that you submit any requests at least 21 days in advance.

This can be actioned by forwarding your Form 3's, notifying us of the works you are carrying out, when they are due to commence and who is carrying out the works. If you are an academy and procuring the works yourself, you should still notify us of any works planned and still complete the Form 3.

Asbestos Surveys - for those schools who have procured asbestos refurbishment surveys with analytical companies other than Lucion, you will need to let me have copies of the surveys, as I am not given copies of these surveys automatically. Without having sight of these, I am unable to update your school asbestos register.

All that contractors must read and sign the asbestos register every day they are on site. The supervisor cannot sign on their behalf. This is our record that they have all read the register and are aware of where the asbestos is located on site

Also I would just like to point out that CDM regulations may apply when you have to separate contractors on site at one time. In accordance with requirements with the CDM regulations you will have to appoint one of the contractors as the principal contractor.  Therefore please be mindful when organising works direct with contractors.

All schools / academies should ensure any asbestos surveys are requested 21 days in advance.

Any works carried out independently of the authority all surveys, air test certificates, removal paper work should be forward to the Asbestos Manager.
