The Coalfield area of Sunderland includes Copt Hill, Houghton-le-Spring, Hetton-le-Hole and Shiney Row.
Sunderland Council has been hosting public consultations in the area since 2019, to understand what residents think of their neighbourhoods and how they need to change to improve people's lives.
Here's what happened at just one of our meetings:
Some of the main issues raised during the consultations included:
- More affordable homes should be created
- Empty and derelict properties should be dealt with, as places uncared for is creating anti-social behaviour
- Better use of parks, as well as improving parks and green spaces
- Improve cleansing
