December 2022

Wednesday 7 December I and my Consort David attended a Community Carol Service which was held at St Cuthbert’s Church, Rotherham Road, Redhouse, Sunderland. The service was conducted by the Mayor’s Chaplain Rev Jennifer Bradshaw.

Friday 9 December, I had the honour of presenting the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal to eligible soldiers from 4th Regiment Royal Artillery 88 Battery. This was held at Allanbrooke Barracks, Topcliffe, Thirsk.

Monday 12 December I officially opened the Holiday Inn Sunderland, Keel Square, Sunderland alongside Steve Cram CBE and Sharon Appleby of Sunderland Bid.

Friday 16 December I had the pleasure of officially opening the new NDRC Valiant Close Day Care Centre and Supported Living Bungalows Cork Street, Hendon, Sunderland

Saturday 24 December, I attended the official re-opening of Ray’s Convenience Store, Villette Road, Sunderland.

November 2022

Thursday 3 November, I attended the CEO for the Armed Forces Community which was held at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland.

Saturday 5th November, I had the privilege of attending the annual North East Field of Remembrance Parade 2022. Mayors and dignitaries from across the region were also in attendance to show their respect.

Thursday 17 November I switched on the City Centre Illuminations to start the Christmas festivities where I met stars from the pantomime Aladdin playing at the Sunderland Empire this Christmas.

Friday 18 November I was delighted to attend Fulwell Junior School, Sea Road, Sunderland to present the Artsmark Platinum Award at a special assembly.

Friday 25 November I and my husband and Consort David visited the Sunderland for the Ukraine at Hope Vineyard Church, Hendon, Sunderland where we thanked those in attendance who have generously donated essential toiletries.

October 2022

I had the pleasure of officially opening the Houghton Feast Fairground to a group of Special Educational Needs children on Friday 7 October 2022. I had a fantastic time joining the children on the dodgem’s.

I met members of the Houghton-le-Spring Rotary Club on Saturday 8 October who kindly volunteer their time each year to prepare Houghton Feast Hog Roast and had the pleasure of carving the first slice!

On Monday 17 October I had the honour of attending the Children in Need Rickshaw Challenge at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland, here I am meeting Pudsey Bear.

Wednesday 19 October I hosted a visit to City Hall from the Washington 1st Guides. The girls had a tremendous time and had the opportunity of visiting both the Mayor’s Parlour and Council Chambers.

September 2022

Saturday 3 September I officially opened the new re-located Clintons Store in the Bridges, Sunderland.

Celebrating Merchant Navy Day on 3 September by raising the Red Ensign at City Hall, Sunderland along with Dr Norman Taylor DL, High Sheriff for Tyne and Wear Mr David Bavaird and Captain Stephen Healy of Trinity House, Newcastle.

Sunday 18 September, I and my husband David attended Sunderland Veterans Memorial Service for the late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II which was held at the War Memorial, Burdon Road Park, Sunderland.

Wednesday 21 September I visited the Veterans Breakfast Club at Lakeside Community Centre, Gilley Law, Sunderland.

Wednesday 21 September I also met the Sunderland for Ukraine Group at Hope Vineyard Church, Hendon Road, Sunderland.

Sunday 25 September I officially re-opened the Sunderland Volunteer Life Brigade Museum at the Watch House, Pier View, Roker, Sunderland.

August 2022

On Friday 5 August I attended the Britain in Bloom judging at Washington Village where I had the pleasure of meeting the Washington Village in Bloom volunteers.

On Saturday 6 August I was joined by the Deputy Mayor and Deputy Consort at Usworth Miners Picnic where we spent time chatting to residents.

Monday 15 August, I hosted a Civic Reception in the Mayors Parlour where I presented Freedom of the City Scrolls to members of Sunderland AFC who contributed to the club winning the 1973 FA Cup Final.

Sunday 21 August, I attended the British Triathlon Super Series Grand Final which was held at Marine Walk, Roker, Sunderland. What a fantastic event, thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Tuesday 31 August, I had the pleasure of unveiling the Bishopwearmouth Banner at Sunderland Minster, Sunderland where I met the volunteers who had spent many hours creating the artwork.

July 2022

Sunday 3 July my Consort and I attended Hetton Miners Annual Church Service which was held at Hetton Methodist Church.

Monday 4 July my Consort and I attended the 4 July American Independence Day celebrations which were held at Washington Old Hall.

Thursday 14 July, I had the pleasure of attending the Active Sunderland Festival which was held at Cliffe Park, Sunderland and included the Commonwealth Games Baton relay.

Saturday 16 July my Consort and I attended Richard Avenue Primary School Community Fair. We had a fantastic time meeting the school children and local residents.

Wednesday 20 July I had the pleasure of hosting an Elizabeth Cross Ceremony in the Mayor’s Parlour, City Hall.

Monday 25 July I held a charity fundraising evening at My Dehli, Borough Road, Sunderland. It was a fantastic evening and raised a total of £ for my chosen charities for 2022 – 2023 Downhill Pond and Community Gardens, Friends of Bunnyhill and Ho

June 2022

Saturday 11 June my Consort and I had the pleasure of attending Shiney Row Male Voice Choir’s Early Summer Concert and Falkland’s Veteran’s Memorial.

On 15 June I have the pleasure of hosting a Citizenship Ceremony which was held at City Hall.

On Thursday 16 June I attended the annual Vicoria Memorial Service in Mowbray, Park Sunderland.

On Friday 24 June I had the honour of hosting the first Armed Forces Day and Flag Raising Ceremony at City Hall.

On Saturday 25 June I had the pleasure of attending the First African International Day in the City of which had been organised by the Pan Africa Network and was held in City Hall.

On Sunday 26 June I attended the Active Sunderland Big Walk which was held at Herrington Country Park.

May 2022

On Wednesday 18 May I was inaugurated into the Office of the Mayor for the City of Sunderland at the Annual Council and Mayor Making Ceremony. I am very much looking forward to the year ahead.

On Friday 20 May I attended my first civic engagement at the opening of the Veteran’s Garden at Sunderland University.

Sunday 8 May I was given the honour of starting the Events of the North 10k and half marathon races and presenting the winners at the finishing line.

Wednesday 11 May the Mayoress and I attended the official opening of the Betsy Jenny Counselling and Wellbeing Café, Bridge Street, Sunderland.

Wednesday 18 May the Mayoress and I hosted a Citizenship Ceremony in the Mayor’s Parlour, City Hall.

Wednesday 11 May the Mayoress and I hosted a visit to the Mayors Parlour from Year 5, Blackfell Primary School, Washington.

April 2022

The Mayoress and I had the pleasure of attending the Sunderland Parent Carer Forum's Wheelchair Skills and Fun Day at the Beacon of Light, where we met some very talented wheelchair users.

the Mayoress and I attended the Special Lioness Easter Celebration event at Harraton Community Centre, Washington. The Special Lioness is one of my chosen charities and provides fantastic support to families with severely disabled children.

March 2022

8 January 2022 - The Mayoress and I attended the official opening of Northern Spire Hearing Services which is the first private independent audiology clinic in Sunderland.

13 January 2022 - The Mayoress and I had the privilege of attending a Freedom of the City Ceremony for former SAFC players from the 1973 FA cup winning team. I have to say that it was a fabulous event, here I am presenting a scroll to Bobby Kerr.

27 January 2022 - The Mayoress and I attended the opening of the new Sunderland Coroner's Court in City Hall by Chief Coroner of England and Wales.

29 January 2022 - I was honoured to unveil Phase 10 of the Veterans Walk in Mowbray Park on an exceptionally windy day.

February 2022

Monday 7 February the Mayoress and I visited the Brewery Tap, Unit 2 Monk Street, Monkwearmouth where we had a tour, what a great establishment this is.

Friday 11 February the Mayoress and I attended Houghton Le Spring Pipe Band Annual Burns Supper where I had the pleasure of presenting the annual trophies.

Sunday 13 February the Mayoress participated in a charity sea dip at Marine Walk, Roker, Sunderland. Over £800 has been raised for Hug in a Bag and the Special Lioness, a massive thank you to everyone who sponsored the Mayoress and her team.

Saturday 26 February the Mayoress and I had the pleasure of attending the 140th Anniversary of the Salvation Army Monkwearmouth Celebrations.

Monday 28 February the Mayoress and I had the pleasure of hosting a British Empire Medal Ceremony in which medals were presented to five local citizens. Congratulations to all the wonderful recipients.

January 2022
