Local Government Elections - May 2023

Local Government election for all 25 Wards and Parish Election for 4 wards

An election will be held to elect 25 Members to Sunderland City Council and 21 Members to Hetton Town Council on Thursday 4 May 2023.

The notice of election will be published on Friday 24 March 2023 and, if contested, the date of poll will be Thursday 4 May 2023.

Statutory election notices will be published in due course.

 

To vote at a polling station, you will need to bring photo ID.

 

•The deadline for registering to vote for this election is 11:59pm on Monday 17 April 2023.

•The deadline to apply for a postal postal vote, or change a current postal vote is 5pm on Tuesday 18 April 2023.

•The deadline to apply to vote by proxy proxy is 5pm on Tuesday 25 April 2023

Voter ID

The UK Government has introduced a requirement for voters to show photo ID when voting at a polling station at some elections. This new requirement will apply for the first time in England at the local elections on Thursday 4 May 2023.
