Life changing equipment to try out at City Hall sight loss exhibition.

A sight loss exhibition was held at City Hall, Sunderland, to give people the opportunity to gain more knowledge and try out life changing equipment.

The exhibition, held on Wednesday 4th October 2023 at City |Hall, was organised by Julie Anderson Development worker at Sunderland Royal Society for the Blind. Deb our We'ar shining the light reporter reports on the event.

There was a real buzz, and the venue was full of exhibition stands, to give people the opportunity to try out equipment, which can be life changing.

It was also a social event, where handy hints were swapped regarding living well with sight loss.

Sunderland Royal Society for the Blind is a long-established charity and was formed in 1877. In 2027 it will be 150 years old. The purpose of the charity is to provide support, services, information, and advice for people who are visually impaired of any age and their families and friends.

Some of the main services include a free point of delivery for professional counselling services, befriending, and communications (used to be primarily braille but assisted technology is important).

CEO of the charity Richard Wood said: "Older adults want to learn. It opens up another world. The technology can read out bills, communicate with family and various other things."
