Significant debt

Pre-existing and significant debt for HSF for all the above means any of the following (for debts that you have before 1 January 2025)

  • Current Individual Voluntary Agreement (IVA) 
  • Pre-existing debt worth more than £4,000 (excluding mortgage balance / HP balance / rent normal payments but can include arrears) - providing there is some evidence of ongoing payment.
  • More than 2 months of pre-existing mortgage / rent arrears (worth £500 or more) - providing there is some evidence of ongoing payment.
  • Pre-existing priority debt - for example Council Tax arrears, court fines, and Hire Purchase Agreements (worth £500 or more) - providing there is some evidence of ongoing payment.                                                                                                                                                                                                          
  • Scheduled priority debt repayments worth more than 25% of monthly income including DWP deductions.
